He came through the youth academies of Roma and later represented Frosinone and Rayo Vallecano's youth side. Cristian eventually featured for Avezzano and Olbia in Italy’s Serie D. Despite showing promising technical ability, he struggled to find stability in senior football due to constant public scrutiny.
He also faced criticism on social media, including body‑shaming, which affected his confidence and enjoyment of the sport. As a result, he decided to step away from competitive football altogether.
Although he has retired as a player, Cristian remains involved in football. He will now work with the family-run Totti Soccer School, founded by his father and managed by his uncle Riccardo, assisting in scouting and mentoring young talents under the guidance of CEO Claudio D’Ulisse.
Marco Amelia, former Roma goalkeeper and Cristian’s coach at Olbia, praised his vision and tactical awareness, stating he had the potential to play in Serie C or B. However, he noted that the weight of his father’s legacy distorted how people viewed Cristian’s performances.
Cristian later confirmed his decision in an interview, saying, “I’ve decided to stop playing. I’m not going to play football anymore.” While he has chosen to leave the pitch early, he will continue contributing to the sport behind the scenes.
