Bayern’s latest offer follows an earlier bid of €67.5 million (£58.5 million), which Liverpool rejected. Although the club was initially reluctant to sell, they opted to proceed with negotiations after Díaz expressed a strong interest in the move and talks over a contract extension fell through.
Díaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for a reported fee of £37.5 million and signed a five-and-a-half-year contract. Since then, he has scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists in 148 appearances. His most recent season was his best yet, contributing 17 goals and eight assists in 50 games and helping Liverpool win the 2024–25 Premier League title.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot left Díaz out of their recent pre-season match against AC Milan, highlighting the seriousness of the transfer situation.
Díaz is expected to sign a four-year contract with Bayern, keeping him at the club until June 2029. His annual gross salary will reportedly be around €14 million, a significant increase from the €2.7 million net he earned at Liverpool. Bayern see him as a key addition to their attack following the departure of Leroy Sané and with Jamal Musiala currently injured.
Liverpool are now exploring replacements, with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak reportedly among their top targets. Other potential options include Hugo Ekitike and Malick Fofana. The club is also expected to reinforce their defense following several exits and injury concerns.
