Morgan Gibbs‑White Commits to Nottingham Forest Through 2028
Nottingham Forest have officially announced that England international Morgan Gibbs‑White has signed a new three-year contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028 .
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder had attracted significant interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who reportedly activated his £60 million release clause as part of a transfer offer. However, Forest disputed the legality of Spurs’ approach, alleging a breach of confidentiality and launching formal inquiries into the matter .
Following this heated exchange, club owner Evangelos Marinakis personally intervened during Forest’s pre-season training camp in Portugal. His message persuaded Gibbs‑White of Forest’s long-term ambitions, convincing the midfielder to recommit to the City Ground project .
Forest have described the contract extension as a “record deal” and “statement of intent,” signaling a clear commitment to retaining one of the squad’s key performers . The new contract is believed to include no release clause, emphasizing the club’s desire to securely build around Gibbs‑White’s talents .
On signing, Gibbs‑White commented: _“I’ve felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived. The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable. I believe in what we’re building here – and with the backing of Mr Marinakis and his enormous ambition, I want to make something special. I’m excited for what’s to come.”_
Owner Evangelos Marinakis added: _“Morgan is a special player – not just in talent, but in character and mentality. He represents everything we want this club to be: aspiring, fearless, proud. We were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it.”_
Gibbs‑White joined Nottingham Forest in August 2022 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported fee of around £25m, potentially rising to £42m with add-ons. Since then, he has become a central figure in the team’s revival and strong performances, helping the club qualify for European competition for the first time in nearly three decades .
