The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team and reigning 10-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions, arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on July 30, 2025, to jubilant celebrations organized by the Lagos State Government.

Fans gathered in large numbers, waving green and white flags and chanting the team’s name as the squad disembarked with the coveted WAFCON trophy in hand.
Upon touchdown, the Falcons were met with thunderous applause, lively drumming, and spontaneous song and dance performances. Supporters lined the runway, creating a vibrant atmosphere that underscored the national pride in the team’s record-extending continental triumph.
Earlier in the week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger on each member of the squad in recognition of their exceptional performance in Morocco. Captained by Rasheedat Ajibade, whose leadership galvanized the side throughout the tournament, and buoyed by Jennifer Echegini’s decisive goal in the final, the team’s homecoming was a testament to Nigeria’s enduring dominance in African women’s football.
The Lagos State Government has announced that the open-top victory parade will wind through major city thoroughfares, offering residents a chance to salute the champions and share in the festivities.
