They arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport aboard a chartered flight from Rabat, greeted by jubilant fans and top officials from the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation.
In the final played at Stade Olympique in Rabat, Morocco took the lead with two early goals from captain Ghizlane Chebbak and winger Sanaa Mssoudy. However, Nigeria mounted a strong comeback. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty awarded via VAR in the 64th minute, followed by an equaliser from Folashade Ijamilusi in the 71st minute. Substitute Jennifer Echegini then scored the winner in the 88th minute to seal the victory.
The Super Falcons went unbeaten throughout the tournament, including a semi-final win against defending champions South Africa, maintaining their dominance in African women’s football.
Celebrations in Abuja are set to continue with a city tour featuring the trophy and a reception at the Presidential Villa with President Bola Tinubu. A live concert at Eagle Square is also planned to honour the team.
