Alexander Isak Returns to England Amid Liverpool Interest and Newcastle Training Row

Alexander Isak has returned to the United Kingdom and is set to resume training with Newcastle United as the club prepares for the upcoming Premier League season.
After being absent from Newcastle’s preseason tour in Asia—officially due to a thigh injury—Isak reportedly travelled to San Sebastián and trained alone at Real Sociedad, his former club. His return coincides with intensifying interest from Liverpool, who submitted an opening bid of approximately £110 million, potentially rising to £120 million with add-ons. This offer was promptly rejected by Newcastle, which reportedly values Isak closer to £150 million and will only consider his sale once a suitable replacement is secured.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has stressed that Isak must "earn the right" to rejoin first-team training after his actions—particularly his decision to train independently and skip the Asia tour—raised disciplinary concerns. Although he did not speak directly to Isak during the tour, Howe acknowledged media reports confirming the player’s whereabouts. He affirmed that Isak remains under contract and that the club supports his return as long as he meets expected standards of conduct.

Isak’s return to England places him back in Newcastle’s training environment, ahead of their final preseason friendlies and the Premier League opener on August 16, 2025. Liverpool are reportedly preparing a second—and potentially club-record—bid only after Newcastle secure a replacement, with targets including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Å eÅ¡ko and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. Newcastle also remain cautious amid Isak’s reported £300,000-per-week wage demand, which exceeds the club’s wage structure, adding pressure to contract talks and potential negotiations.

Alexander Isak is expected to rejoin Newcastle United's training in the coming days. Liverpool’s initial bid was rejected, and Newcastle insist he’s not for sale until a suitable replacement is found. Eddie Howe has voiced concerns over Isak’s recent behaviour and emphasized that personal responsibility and professionalism will determine his reintegration into the squad. The situation remains fluid, with a potential transfer still possible if both clubs reach an agreement.
