The 36-year-old shared the devastating news via an Instagram post, explaining that he and his wife Lisa decided to go public to bring clarity to those around them and to the public.

Ulreich said, “It is with deep sadness that we would like to announce today that our son Len passed away a few weeks ago after a long, serious illness. The decision to make this public now is incredibly difficult for us – however, it is an important step for us as a family.”

The couple, who also have a daughter, expressed their intention to rebuild their lives slowly and extended gratitude to family, friends, and Bayern Munich for their support and discretion during this painful time. They asked for continued privacy and requested that there be no further questions or statements on the matter.

Len was born in November 2018, three years after Ulreich’s move from VfB Stuttgart to Bayern Munich. Over his two spells with the club, from 2015 to 2020 and again from 2021 to the present, Ulreich has made over 100 appearances. He has won nine Bundesliga titles, three DFB Cups, six DFL Supercups, and the UEFA Champions League.

Ulreich had recently signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich before the announcement. The club’s sporting director praised his reliability and character, calling him an important figure in the dressing room.

Messages of condolence have poured in from fans and fellow players. Ulreich has turned off comments on his Instagram post to shield his family during this period of mourning.

Sven Ulreich, who served as a dependable backup to Manuel Neuer, notably stepped in during the 2017/18 season when Neuer was injured. He played a key role in helping Bayern win the Bundesliga and reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals that season.
