Liverpool Football Club has officially assigned Florian Wirtz the prestigious No. 7 shirt ahead of the 2025–26 season, following the departure of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich.
Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a club-record transfer valued at £100 million (potentially rising to £116.5 million), now assumes a shirt that has been worn by legends such as Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Ian Callaghan, John Aldridge and Luis Suárez. The iconic number had been vacated by Díaz following his £65.5 million move to the Bundesliga champions.

Liverpool also announced squad numbers for their summer arrivals:

– Milos Kerkez dons No. 6
– Jeremie Frimpong retains No. 30, the same number he wore at Leverkusen
– Hugo Ekitike selects No. 22
– New goalkeepers sign on with Giorgi Mamardashvili – 25, Freddie Woodman – 28, and Ármin Pécsi – 41

In addition to Wirtz’s move, Conor Bradley changed from No. 84 to No. 12, while young midfielder Trey Nyoni upgraded from No. 98 to No. 42.
