Newcastle rejects official opening bid of 110million from Liverpool for striker Alexander IsakNewcastle United have rejected a formal offer of around £110 million from Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward, who is said to be eager for a move, has been training at his former club Real Sociedad instead of joining Newcastle’s pre-season tour.

Liverpool made what was reportedly their first official bid for Isak, but Newcastle quickly declined, insisting on a valuation closer to £150 million. At this stage, Liverpool have no plans to make a second offer, especially with Newcastle showing no interest in opening negotiations.

While personal terms were not expected to be a problem—Isak is reportedly keen on the move and had already discussed wages—Liverpool are reluctant to get drawn into a drawn-out transfer saga.

Newcastle maintain a strong position. Isak has three years left on his contract, and the club is not under any immediate Financial Fair Play pressure to sell. The board, led by chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, remains united in resisting any approach that falls short of their valuation.

Manager Eddie Howe previously stated that no formal approach had been made and reiterated his desire to keep the striker, although he admitted that some aspects of the situation were beyond his control.

From the player’s perspective, Isak has reportedly expressed a desire to join Liverpool and has stayed away from Newcastle’s pre-season camp while training privately in Spain. He is said to have verbally agreed to personal terms, but remains under contract until June 2028.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have begun exploring alternatives in case of a future sale. Possible replacements include RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, with the latter thought to be unsettled.

Newcastle’s decision to turn down Liverpool’s offer highlights their determination to retain Isak or secure a significantly higher fee. With Liverpool stepping back for now, the future of the deal remains uncertain unless Newcastle reconsider their stance.
