Wissa explained that earlier in the summer he held open discussions with Brentford’s senior management, including key directors and new head coach Keith Andrews, during which he made clear his desire to seek a new challenge. According to the player, he was assured both verbally and in writing that he would be permitted to leave if a reasonable offer was received.
In his statement, Wissa expressed frustration that, despite what he described as “fair offers” from another Premier League club, Brentford had changed their stance in the final days of the transfer window. He said this reversal had left him in a “difficult and frustrating position” and accused the club of “unduly standing in my way” of a move to St James’ Park.
The DR Congo international stressed that he has always conducted himself professionally, given his all for the club, and maintained full transparency throughout the process. He also emphasised his respect for Brentford’s supporters, describing them as having a “special place in my heart,” and thanked them for their backing during what he called a “difficult situation.”
Wissa, who has not featured for the first team this season and has been training away from the main squad, insisted his wish to leave was not about walking away on bad terms but about pursuing the next step in his career with the blessing of Brentford’s hierarchy. He concluded by expressing hope that a “fair and reasonable resolution” could still be reached before the transfer deadline, urging the club to keep to their word and agree to his departure at a fair price.
