According to the committee’s official statement, Suárez’s conduct violated Article 4.2.C of the Leagues Cup 2025 Competition Regulations, resulting in his ineligibility to participate in the next edition of the tournament until the suspension is fully served. The punishment applies exclusively to Leagues Cup play and does not affect his eligibility for Major League Soccer matches, although MLS reserves the right to impose additional sanctions.
Suárez later issued a public apology via social media, describing the incident as “a moment of great tension and frustration” and acknowledging that his reaction was unjustifiable. He expressed regret and extended congratulations to Seattle for their victory.
The disciplinary fallout extended beyond Suárez. Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets received a two-game suspension for violent conduct after striking Seattle’s Obed Vargas, while defender Tomás Avilés was suspended for three matches. Seattle assistant coach Steven Lenhart was also penalized with a five-game suspension for his role in the confrontation.
