Manchester City has officially confirmed the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a £26 million deal, ushering in a new era between the posts at the Etihad Stadium. The 26-year-old Italian international has signed a five-year contract with an option for a sixth, and will wear the No. 99 shirt. His arrival coincides with the departure of Ederson, who has joined Turkish side Fenerbahçe after eight highly successful seasons in Manchester.

In a heartfelt farewell shared by the club, Ederson reflected on his time at City: “I leave incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am honoured to have worn the shirt so many times. Under Pep, we have dominated the Premier League and conquered Europe. It has been amazing. Playing for City has been the most special time of my life and I will always be a fan of this special club”.

Ederson’s move was completed in a £12 million transfer, closing a chapter that saw him make 372 appearances, keep 168 clean sheets, and win 18 major honors including six Premier League titles and a Champions League. Donnarumma, meanwhile, arrives with an impressive résumé, having helped PSG win the Champions League last season and kept 56 clean sheets in 161 appearances since joining from AC Milan in 2021.

He is expected to compete with James Trafford, who has started all of City’s league games this season, though Donnarumma’s signing signals a likely shift in Guardiola’s long-term plans. The club’s official announcement emphasized Donnarumma’s pedigree and readiness to take on the No. 1 role, stating that his signing “marks a new chapter in our pursuit of excellence.”
