Manchester United Agree Verbal Deal with Trabzonspor for André Onana Loan Move

Manchester United and Trabzonspor have reportedly reached a verbal agreement for goalkeeper André Onana to join the Turkish club on a season-long loan. The proposed move hinges on Onana’s decision to accept the switch across the Bosphorus, with the Turkish transfer window open until September 12, 2025—and in some reports, until September 11.

The agreement follows the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, who joined Manchester United on deadline day for a reported £18.2 million plus add-ons. His arrival has intensified competition in goal, alongside Altay Bayındır and Tom Heaton, placing Onana further down the pecking order.

Onana’s only appearance this season came in Manchester United’s shock EFL (Carabao) Cup exit to Grimsby Town, in which he was held partly responsible for the defeat—further undermining his grip on the number one shirt.

United’s preference appears to be a move away from a direct permanent exit, with a loan seen as a pragmatic solution to ease squad congestion while potentially offloading a portion of Onana’s wages.

If Onana opts to decline, the move remains in limbo. Yet with Turkey’s window closing soon and United’s recent goalkeeping reinforcement, it appears increasingly likely that Onana will seek fresh opportunities to rebuild form and confidence elsewhere.
