Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance against Gabon, triumphing 4-1 after extra time in their CAF World Cup qualifying semifinal. Despite a tense 90 minutes that ended 1-1, Nigeria’s resilience shone through in extra time as Chidera Ejuke and Victor Osimhen propelled the team to victory.
The match, played at the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan in Rabat, Morocco, was a dramatic encounter that kept fans on edge until the final whistle. Both sides struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, with Nigeria creating chances but failing to convert. Gabon appealed for a penalty after a shirt-pulling incident, but VAR ruled against it.

Nigeria took the lead in the 76th minute through Akor Adams, who capitalized on a defensive error. Gabon equalized late in the 89th minute when Mario Lemina’s deflected strike found the net. In extra time, the Super Eagles came alive. Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead with a composed finish from Wilfred Ndidi’s pass, before Osimhen sealed the win with two goals, showcasing his trademark pace and precision.

This result secures Nigeria’s place in the playoff final and strengthens their bid for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
