19-year-old mentally unstable man has stabbed to death an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State.
The slain officer, Babalola Joseph Idowu, was attacked on Thursday, November 20, 2025, while attempting to restrain the young man in the Oke-Ala area of Oba-Ile in Akure North Local Government Area.
According to witnesses, the suspect’s mother had called in two NSCDC personnel to help chain her son due to his recurring mental instability. During the struggle, the teenager allegedly overpowered one of the officers, snatched his knife, and stabbed him multiple times.
Despite being rushed to hospital, Idowu later died from his injuries. The NSCDC’s Ondo State Public Relations Officer, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed that the officers’ intention was to escort the young man to a psychiatric facility when the tragedy happened.
