NFF Addresses Concerns Over Super Eagles’ Accommodation in Morocco

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has moved to address public concerns regarding the Super Eagles’ lodging arrangements in Morocco, following widespread criticism from fans over the condition of the team’s hotel.
The controversy began after midfielder Alex Iwobi shared a video from the team’s base in Rabat, which appeared to show dilapidated buildings near the hotel. The footage quickly went viral, sparking outrage among supporters who questioned the quality of facilities provided for the national team ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.
In response, the NFF clarified that the Super Eagles are housed at the Rive Hotel, a modern four-star facility chosen for its proximity to the training ground and match venue. According to the federation, the viral images were misinterpreted, as they depicted an old building visible from the hotel windows rather than the actual accommodation itself.
Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe emphasized that the players are comfortably settled and that the federation remains committed to ensuring the team’s welfare. He explained that while the surrounding area may not reflect the hotel’s standards, the choice of location was made to balance convenience and logistics for the squad’s preparation.
The incident has reignited debate about the responsibility of CAF and national federations in securing adequate facilities for teams during international competitions. While CAF typically oversees accommodation arrangements, federations can raise objections if standards fall short.
Despite the uproar, the NFF assured fans that the Super Eagles are focused on their preparations and that the accommodation issue will not distract from the team’s mission to secure qualification.
