Rodri Ruled Out Again: Guardiola Confirms Absence Ahead of Newcastle Clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will not be available this weekend, as the Spanish midfielder continues his recovery.

“Rodri is making good steps,” Guardiola explained. “It’s been three weeks since his last setback. He knows he has to take the real time to recover well—mentally and especially physically.”

The 29-year-old has endured a difficult season, struggling to regain full fitness after an anterior cruciate ligament injury last year. More recently, he sustained a hamstring problem during City’s 1-0 win over Brentford in October, which forced him to miss four matches. Although he made a brief substitute appearance in the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth earlier this month, Guardiola has since kept him out of the squad to avoid further complications.

City’s next challenge comes on Saturday, November 22, at St. James’ Park, where they face Newcastle United in the Premier League. The Magpies will look to exploit Rodri’s absence in midfield, while Guardiola’s side aim to extend their winning streak and close the gap on leaders Arsenal.
