Olusegun “Segun” Awolowo Jr., the grandson of Nigeria’s iconic nationalist Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has passed away at the age of 62.
His family released a statement on Thursday, describing him as “steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor” of their lives. They praised his lifelong dedication to public service, noting his “vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment.”
Segun had a distinguished career. He served as the Executive Director and CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2022. In July 2021, he was unanimously elected President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations (TPOs) for ECOWAS member states. In 2023, he was appointed Secretary of Nigeria’s National Action Committee on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
