Gernot Rohr has insisted that Daniel Akpeyi is still Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Recall that the goal keeper committed series of error in the game against South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June.
Akpeyi has faced criticism after his performance in the 2-0 defeat to Bafana Bafana.
According to reports from Completes Sports, says the Chippa United goalkeeper remains the best among the pack with Carl Ikeme out due to acute leukaemia.
Akpeyi and the pair of Dele Alampasu and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are expected to make the squad for the crucial clash against the Indomitable Lion of Cameroon.
“Rohr feels what Akpeyi needs is more confidence from his teammates,” the team source told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The coach doesn’t want anyone to feel completely comfortable because he feels others also too can compete for places, but he still believes Akpeyi is his best goalkeeper.”
