Almar Football Club of Ijebu Ode may have announced plans to withdraw from the on-going AITEO Cup.
This is due to lack of assistance from the Ogun State government.
They are scheduled to travel to Maiduguri to engage El-Kanemi Babes in the round of 32 fixtures.
According to an official of the club said: “the decision to pull out from the competition is borne out of the fact that the state Football Association and the government practically abandoned the club in its quest to win a competition that was last won over 3 decades ago by a club from the state”.
"We won the State Federation Cup through sheer determination and hard work and at the moment the only representative of the state in the competition, yet the state refuses to identify in any way with our participation in this competition. This is quite unfortunate; you can imagine the distance from Ijebu Ode to Maiduguri of all places without any form of support or welfare from the state…"
The club official spoke further on the fact that "Almar FC despite being a private club has invested a lot in the promotion and encouragement of youth development and from all indications the players are at the verge of being denied the opportunity of showcasing their skills at this national stage" he concluded.
