Gernot Rohr has confirmed another injury setback to his number one choice goal keeper ahead of Friday's crucial World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon.
At the media parley held at the Le Meriden Hotel on Wednesday, Rohr said Chippa United shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi has suffered a relapse of the injury he was battling with and will thus not be the one to man the post when the Indomitable Lions come calling on Friday.
The Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper was an injury concern before he arrived the Nigeria camp, having missed his club’s last game before the international break and even though he was said to have only missed the game as a precaution, it appears it is more serious than earlier thought.
Akpeyi is one of three goalkeepers invited for the back-to-back games against Cameroon, with Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu the other two.
