John Paul Mwirigi is the youngest Member of Parliament in Kenya’s history.

At 23-year-old, Mwirigi stunned many when he floored seasoned politicians for the Igembe South parliamentary seat in the Tuesday, August 8, election.

On Wednesday, August 30, he arrived in Nairobi county from his home in Meru county to register for orientation ahead of the Parliament swearing in ceremony scheduled for Thursday, August 31.

Speaking to KTN News outside the National Assembly, Mwirigi stunned many once again when he revealed he traveled from Meru to Nairobi in a public service transport vehicle (Matatu) and walked all the way to the Parliament grounds.

This was as some of his 12th Parliament colleagues arrived in expensive, personal vehicles.

“I’m coming straight from school with no political experience but I will try my best to familiarize myself with the parliamentary processes” Mwirigi said.

Mwirigi, an orphan, conducted door to door campaigns and used boda bodas to reach the masses. With no shilling to spare, he did not put up a single campaign poster like his competitiors who splashed the constituency with their posters.

He got an education funded by well wishers and never greased constituents hands. He, however, promised to improve their lives because he knows and has lived their problems.
