Daniel Sturridge has stayed in England for
treatment on his damaged hamstring rather than fly to Barcelona with
the rest of West Bromwich Albion's squad.
Baggies
manager Alan Pardew has taken his players away for a week of
warm-weather training in an effort to turn around results that have left
them bottom of the Premier League, seven points from safety.
But Sturridge will remain at West Brom's
training ground instead as the medical staff assess the extent of his
injury and work on trying to get him fit for vital Premier League games
to come.
The 28-year-old, signed on loan from
Liverpool, is set to miss Saturday's FA Cup tie against Southampton but
Pardew hopes he can find fitness in time for the visit of Huddersfield
on February 24.
Victory in that contest
looks essential in West Brom's efforts to survive, with Pardew aiming
for at least 12 points from a run that includes games against Watford,
Leicester, Bournemouth, Burnley and Swansea.
The
initial prognosis on Sturridge was that he has a strain rather than a
tear and Pardew is still relying on him for the season's run-in.
On
Tuesday morning, the West Brom boss took his team to Espanyol's
training centre for sunshine sessions. They are due back on Friday
afternoon.
