Former Everton star player, Steven Pienaar has retired from playing football. 


The South African midfielder made his mark in 1999 for Ajax Capetown in South Africa, spending three years. 

He joined Dutch giants Ajax in 2001-2006, he moved to Borussia Dortmund from 2006-2008.

The former Tottenham and Sunderland, 35, also played for Everton from 2008-2011. 

He wrote on his twitter page: "It’s been an amazing ride made more special by you, the fans. Thank You. It’s been an honour."

Pienaar made 61 appearances for his national team from 2002-2012. He scored three times for the Bafana Bafana.
