Aretha Franklin had an outfit change for the second day of her public viewing in Detroit on Wednesday.

The Queen of Soul's fans have been lining up to pay their final respects to the music icon during the two-day viewing.

On Tuesday, the singer's body was displayed in an open, gold-plated casket, while her hits played from loudspeakers outside the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where her body lies in repose ahead of her funeral on Friday.

She was transported to the museum on Tuesday morning in a vintage white Lasalle and passed by hundreds of fans who had stayed up all night to see her and be the first to pay their respects to the singer.

The soul star, who was surrounded by huge, colourful bouquets, was dressed in a striking red cocktail dress and matching red stilettos.

But on the second day, the iconic singer was wearing a different outfit - a pastel blue dress and matching heels.

Aretha, who passed away on August 16 following a battle with pancreatic cancer aged 76, was also in a bronze casket, which was a change from the previous day's gold casket.

"Forever Our Queen," a banner at the museum reads, while "Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul" was stitched into the fabric on the inside of her casket.
