PATRICK VIEIRA has welcomed his former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry to Ligue 1, amid reports he has agreed to take over at Bordeaux.

Henry, 41, is being tipped to take over from Gus Poyet to enjoy his first crack at management, with Nice chief Vieira excited about the prospect.

The former France forward left his role as a Sky Sports pundit earlier this summer in order to focus on his new career.

And with Poyet threatening to quit the Ligue 1 outfit after an astonishing rant, Henry is already being lined-up so early in the season.

On the potential arrival of Henry, Vieira said: "[His arrival] would be very good for Bordeaux. That would be very good for him.

"It would be very good for Ligue 1 compared to his notoriety. I know he's someone who really wants to coach and he has the means to succeed.

"He had lots of experiences. I think it would be a very good thing for football because he has a lot to contribute and a lot to give.

"He wants to train. He has proposals and then he makes his choice but he has the means to succeed.

"Whether Bordeaux or another challenge, it would be good for him but also for football."

While no official deal is in place for Henry to take over at Bordeaux as yet, reports in France claim the move is all but done, with Gilles Grimandi set to be his No2.
