Shaqiri sends Gary Neville a signed rival shirt

Xherdan Shaqiri has signed a special Liverpool shirt for Gary Neville - after the former Manchester United man lost a bet to Jamie Carragher.

Earlier this month, Carragher defeated Neville in a penalty shoot-out, which meant the full back would have to wear the jersey of his most hated rival.

After netting, Carragher announced: “That's a Liverpool shirt - I'll even buy it.

“23 Carragher on the back. No, I'll tell you who'll we'll get, 23 Shaqiri on the back, he hates Shaqiri.”

Neville has since insisted he would renege on the wager, a move which Sky Sports co-worker Geoff Shreeves labelled as 'scandalous', but Carragher has taken steps to ensure he will go through with the promise.

Posting on Twitter, the Liverpool legend revealed the Shaqiri shirt signed by the Swiss international himself, which Neville will be expected to wear on Monday Night Football.

The message reads: "To my no.1 fan Gary, please don't track back - SORRY - please don't backtrack on this bet."

Shaqiri's words are a playful dig on Neville's harsh criticism of the former Stoke star during the summer, with the ex-defender labelling the 26-year-old unprofessional.

"I’m not a fan of Shaqiri to be honest with you,” he said. “I think that was to be fair made worse by the fact that he distanced himself from his team-mates as Stoke.

“They were unprofessional last season Stoke there’s no doubt and he epitomises it.

“He could score the goal of the tournament and he could have the most amazing game against Brazil.

“But he could also be there for three matches, do nothing and just amble and waddle around."

They were Manchester United players," he said. "Maybe they don’t like Liverpool! Some people like you, some people don’t like you. I don’t want to comment on what is said by people I don’t know.

“I think I played three years already in the Premier League and I’ve proved I can play here. I can score goals and give assists. I know the league well. I have a lot of experience.

"I think my score points speak for themselves. I was the top scorer in the team with goals and assists, so I don’t have to say any more.

“I think everybody knows that. My conscience is clear.”

Shaqiri is expected to be part of the Liverpool squad for Monday's trip to Crystal Palace - a game which will be analysed on Sky by both Carragher and Neville.
