ARSENAL hero Nwankwo Kanu wants to see his nephew given a chance in the Gunners’ first team in the future.

Kanu’s nephew is Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali, who joined Arsenal in 2016 from the Diamond Football Academy.

Nwakali signed a five-year deal at the Emirates aged 18 but is yet to make a first-team appearance.

He spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Dutch side MVV Maastricht, scoring three goals in 34 appearances.

Nwakali joined another Dutch team in VVV Venlo the following campaign before another spell at MVV earlier this year.

The 20-year-old will will spend this season at Portuguese giants Porto.

But Kanu hopes he can return to Arsenal one day and be given his chance in the first team.

“Very, very good player,” Kanu told Goal.

“I hope you have seen him play, then you will know that he is good.
“He played for Nigeria before the World Cup, a friendly game against Atletico Madrid.

“He scored a fantastic goal, so he keeps playing and keeps progressing and keeps growing.

“I keep advising him. I hope one day they will open the door for him to come back to play for Arsenal.”

New Arsenal boss Unai Emery has had a mixed start to his reign at the Emirates.
