Ex Super Eagles star, Edema loses primary election in Delta

Fuludu Edema
Former Nigeria international and current Vice-chairman of the Delta State Football Association Edema Fuludu seems to have had his hand burnt in his maiden adventure into politics.

Fuludu who was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the Tunisia 1994 Africa Cup Nations revealed on Thursday that he has literally been used and dumped by those he put his trust on.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “The worst feeling in the world is to knowing you have been used and lied to by someone you trusted.

“Thank you for the lesson. God bless all who prayed and supported me in the political run for the Delta State House of Assembly.

“I lost the primaries today. The story is for another day and congratulations to the winner Mathew Oporu.

Fuludu had the intention to take part in the 2019 General election as an aspirant vying for elective position into the floor of the Delta state Parliament.


The 1994 Africa cup of nations winner was bidding to run as representative of Constituency II Warri South Local Government Area of Delta state in the state house of Assembly.

Already willing to take his fate and move on, Fuludu told one of his supporters that he was indeed the best hand for the job.

“Not about naivety. They agreed am the best in all ramifications but my own brothers who are really taken care off burnt my bridge. Am not really worried its a lesson but no giving up” he said

Fuludu is just one of the increasing list of ex-footballers going into politics after legendary Nigerian footballer and 1980 Africa cup of nations winner Segun Odegbami had also declared his Gubernatorial ambition in Ogun state.

Fuludu is a graduate of Business Administration with an MBA also in Business Admin from the prestigious University of Benin.

Fuludu came to limelight when he captained the Uniben team to NUGA and was signed by coach Godwin Izilien for the now disbanded New Nigeria Bank FC of Benin.

Fuludu played a major part in that NNB team which was depleted by the mass exodus which saw the team lose vital players like Humphrey Edobor,Bright Omokaro, Sunday Eboigbe, Austin Igbinobaro, Wilfred Agbonavbare(RIP) et al.

Fuludu and his new teammates surprised all to qualify NNB against all odds for WAFU.

Fuludu will leave after the disbandment to BBC Loons of Gboko where he won the African cup winners cup before joining Julius Berger of Lagos.


He later played professional football in Turkey with Altay Izmir for 3 seasons before hanging his boot.
