Nigerian singer Johnny Drille started honing his skills in music from the humble streets of Benin. Today, he is one of the country’s fastest emerging stars, finessing his way to the top of the music industry.

He got signed to Mavin records in March last year but before then had released some breakout singles. The latest release, ‘Halleluya’, features Simi and has further helped to broaden his ever-growing fanbase.

The Edo state born musician is also a great producer and recently got the rare opportunity to make a record for one of Nigeria’s most prominent producer and songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo. Cobhams’ new song ‘Starlight’ is a love anthem dedicated to his wife, and Johnny is the first person to ever produced a record for the celebrated musician.

During a recent interview in Abuja, the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ singer talked about working with Cobhams who he refers to as his idol. He recalled the first time they made contact in 2016 saying; “I was on a Keke Napep in St Saviour road in Benin trying to get home, it was quite noisy and then a call came in. The voice said is this Jonny Drille, and he was like this Cobhams…. I was like who? He said Cobhams Asuquo, I just wanted to scream.”
