Why I have not called up Alexander Lacazette - Didier Deschamps

France manager Didier Deschamps has claimed that Alexandre Lacazette must continue performing well at Arsenal following his continued absence from the national team.

Left out of the squad's World Cup success in the summer, the ex-Lyon man was also absent from Les Bleus' games in September against Germany and Holland.

However, many had tipped the 27-year-old to earn a recall to the national team for their upcoming games against Iceland and Germany after his stunning form for Unai Emery's side.

Having played a vital part in his side's 3-1 win over West Ham to start their run of nine successive victories, the Frenchman has netted five goals for Arsenal in all competitions, with two of those coming in Sunday's victory over Fulham.

Clearly making a big impression at the Emirates after a tough first season in the capital, it still hasn't proved enough to see him earn a spot in the French squad.

Speaking to the media ahead of his side's game against Iceland, Deschamps revealed why he has decided against naming the striker in his squad.

"There is competition for each position," said the World Cup winning manager, as reported by Get French Football News .

"When the players who were at the World Cup are performing well… It is not a question of type of player, but of position.

"I need balance in the squad and he is a central attacker.

"He must continue."
