Egyptian FA pledge support for Al Ahly after Azarou suspension, Caf fine

Earlier on Tuesday, Al Ahly requested the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to submit their protest to Caf against sanctions on their chief striker Oualid Azarou as well as a $20 000 fine imposed on the Cairo-based club.

This follows Azarou’s alleged unsporting behaviour during last Friday’s Caf Champions League final first leg when he tore his shirt in an attempt to trick Algerian referee Mehdi Abid Charef as well as punching an Esperance Tunis player.

As it stands, the Moroccan striker is set to miss Friday’s Champions League final return leg in Rades.

However, EFA has announced their support for Al Ahly who also have their coach Patrice Carteron summoned for a disciplinary hearing for an alleged poor conduct.

“The Egyptian Football Association announces its full support for Ahly's demands regarding the sanctions imposed by Caf's disciplinary committee,” EFA said in a statement.

“We fully support Ahly's demand that Caf reconsiders the sanctions urgently… and EFA has stressed in its letter its full confidence that Caf always seeks to uphold the principles of justice and the spirit of sport.

“Al Ahly hosted Esperance with love and utmost respect. We are confident that Al Ahly and their fans will also be welcomed and supported by Tunisian champions Esperance Sportive de Tunis during the return-leg because Egypt and Tunisia have always had strong relations.”
