Burnley vs Liverpool XI: Salah and Mane ruled out as Sturridge and Origi starts

Liverpool will play catch up with Manchester City once again on Wednesday when they travel to Burnley for their latest Premier League fixture.

The Reds were made to wait until the last seconds of their Saturday derby with Everton before Divock Origi’s fortuitous header allowed them to pinch a 1-0 win and stay within touching distance of leaders Manchester City, who beat Watford on Tuesday to re-open their five-point advantage.

Standing in the Anfield side’s way is a Burnley outfit that have been nobody’s pushovers since Sean Dyche took charge in 2012.

The Clarets, though, are struggling at the wrong end of the table with just two wins to their credit thus far, and a third against Liverpool would be a welcome tonic heading into the hectic festive season.

Nick Pope and Stephen Ward are long-term issues for Burnley, but otherwise, they should have a strong squad to select from.

Steven Defour is something of a doubt due to knee pain.

Confirmed Burnley starting XI: Hart; Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Cork, Westwood, Brady, Barnes, Wood.

Bench: Heaton, Lowton, Vokes, Hendrick, Lennon, Vydra, Long.

Liverpool can welcome back captain Jordan Henderson to their midfield after he missed out at the weekend due to a one-game suspension. If he plays, it will mark his 300th career league appearance.

On the other hand, there are fresh doubts over Sadio Mane, who has a cut foot, and Andy Robertson, who has been suffering from a dead leg.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a long-term absentee.

Divock Origi has been giving a starting spot after his winning goal against Everton, while Daniel Sturridge also starts in attack as Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino drop to the bench.

Confirmed Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Moreno; Henderson, Milner, Keita; Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi.

Bench: Mignolet, Fabinho, Firmino, Salah, Lallana, Camacho, Alexander-Arnold.
