El Hadji Diouf regrets joining Liverpool and wished he had joined Manchester United or Barcelona instead.

The former Reds forward was asked by RMC Sport which shirt he regretted wearing.

'I would say Liverpool,' Diouf said. 'Because if I had the chance again I would go to Manchester United or Barcelona. At the time they wanted me also.'

Diouf, who signed for Liverpool after a successful World Cup with Senegal in 2002 from Lens, managed only six goals in 80 appearances for Liverpool.

The Senegal international has a controversial background as he was banned for two matches whilst at Liverpool for spitting at supporters at Celtic Park in 2003.

Diouf also taunted injured QPR midfielder Jamie Mackie and snatched the ball away from club teammate Neil Mellor when the Reds were awarded a penalty.

The retired footballer also had spats with Reds legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher during and after his time with the Merseyside club.

Diouf was eventually loaned to Bolton in 2004 and signed permanently with the club the following season.

He went on to play for Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Rangers, Doncaster and Leeds.
