Napoli turn down Manchester United £91m bid for defender Kalidou Koulibaly

Napoli have reportedly turned down a big £91million offer for defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Manchester United.

The bid was 'immediately' rejected by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The manager has expressed his lack of faith in his current crop of centre backs before, which includes the likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Marcos Rojo.

Rojo hasn't played yet for United this season, and Lindelof recently picked up an injury that will keep him out of the team for a while.

Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League, and have conceded 21 goals in 13 games so far. They're the only team in the top half of the table with a negative goal difference.

Mourinho were lining up a bid for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this year, but the deal never went through.

The current world-record fee for a defender is the £75million Liverpool paid to Southampton for Virgin van Dijk, however United have been looking to smash that with this bid for Koulibaly.
