Rob Holding undergoes successful knee surgery

Arsenal defender Rob Holding has had successful surgery on his knee, and is now starting his 'road to recovery.'

Holding received the season-ending injury in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester United earlier in December after coming into contact with Marcus Rashford.

He has remained positive though, posting a picture on Instagram of him resting up with the caption: 'Happy that the surgery went well! Road to recovery starts now.'

The road to recovery could last up to nine months, after the serious injury ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

Holding said that United's Marcus Rashford reached out to him shortly after the incident, saying: 'Marcus has reached out to me. We are just to (sic) Manc lads luckily (sic) enough to be against each other at OT.

'What happens after is just part of football. It's all love & my aim is to be back better than before.'

The Arsenal defender has also thanked his team-mates for their support since his injury. The likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, Hector Bellerin, and Shkodran Mustafi all sent messages to Holding on social media.

'This team is special! I love my guys. Thank you for all the support from players, staff and fans!' Wrote Holding in another Instagram post.

Arsenal have hit a run of form in recent months which has taken them up to fifth in the Premier League, level on points which Chelsea in fourth.

However, it appears they will have to run the rest of the campaign without Holding.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted that he may have to look to the January transfer window to bolster his defence. They have conceded 20 goals in their 16 games so far, a lot more than the rest of the top five.
