The Ghanian international joined the Blues from German Bundesliga club Augsburg in 2015, making his debut in a 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Champions League. He has featured a mere 23 times for his parent club. LaLiga clubs including Villarreal and Girona approached the Blues over Rahman’s signing but he opted to join David Guion’s side.
He is expected to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2018-19 season as the deal has no option to purchase. There is every chance that Rahman will be sold permanently in the summer, with Maurizio Sarri seeing him as no part of his plans at Stamford Bridge.
Rahman first joined Schalke on a season-long loan deal in the 2016-17 season, but serious injury while on national duty with Ghana hampered his stay. The left-back duly returned to the Royal Blues on-loan once more for the second part of the previous campaign, before a third spell on-loan for the first half of this season. Rahman, though, struggled for game time at the Veltins-Arena this season, making a mere four appearances across all competitions.
Reims currently occupy ninth spot on the French Ligue 1 standings. Rahman has been capped nine times by the Black Stars. Reims next game is against Marseille on saturday, and Baba rahman will hope he is match fit enough to be involved in the game. Baba Rahman had his customary electric smile during his unveiling as a player for Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims. It was good to see considering the there has been very little to smile about in the career of the 24-year-old left back in the past two years.
