Novak Djokovic produced one of the great grand-slam final performances to swat aside Rafael Nadal and become the first man to win seven titles at the Australian Open, according to Reportminds.
The Serbian took just two hours and four minutes to claim a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 victory and a 15th slam crown.
The title, his first in Melbourne since 2016, separated him from the tie he was in with Roy Emerson and Roger Federer, while Djokovic is the first man ever to win three successive slam titles on three different occasions.
Novak is given the trophy by Ivan Lendl, he said: "I would like to return the favour and give compliments to Rafa’s couple of weeks. Obviously a tough match tonight but you came back from an injury that kept you out of the tour.
You are showing your colleagues and young tennis players around the world the definition of what is a fighting spirit. I’m just trying to contemplate the journey from the last 12 months. I had surgery exactly 12 months ago. To stand in front of you today with the title is amazing. I am speechless."
Rafa who was second best, said:" I want to start by saying well done to Novak and his team. It was an amazing level of tennis tonight.
It's been an emotional two weeks, even if today wasn't my best day. Of course I played someone who played much better than me tonight. It's been a very good two weeks for me. I have had many tough moments, and had to retire from many events. Since the US Open I hadn't played a professional match until the first round here. So even if tonight was not my night it's so important to be where I am tonight, coming back from injury. It will give me good energy, inspiration for what's coming.
I have to think my team and my fmaily. Many thanks for the support. Without them I would not be here. I'm going to keep fighting hard to be a better player to fight for the most important things. I'm going to keep fighting to give myself better chances in the future.
Thank you so much to the supporters for everything, and I hope to see you next year. "
