CAF Champions League: Lobi fall to Wydad Casablanca in Enugu

Nigeria’s CAF Champions League campaigners Lobi stars failed to capitalize on their borrowed home advantage as they lost 1 – 0 to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in match day three of the competition at the Nnamdi azikiwe stadium, Enugu on Saturday.

The Makurdi based football outfit at their adopted home failed to get all three points against their Moroccan opponent becoming the first team in the group to drop points at home at the ongoing competition.

Lobi’s Beninois defender Sanni Mama Bah-Yere was the culprit as he fouled Wydad’s striker in the box with the ensuing penalty coolly converted by Mohammed Nahiri in the 29th minute and also proved to be the game’s decider in the encounter.

With the result, Lobi Stars is currently placed third on the group A table on three points after three games losing twice in three group games so far while Wydad tops the group on six points followed by Mamelodi Sundowns on six points while ASEC Mimosa is bottom of the table on three points.

Lobi will be visitors to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in match day four of the group stage of the competition at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Tuesday February 12 by 8pm Nigerian time with a favorable result needed to keep their hopes of moving to the quarter finals alive.
