Premier League giants Manchester United on Thursday posted a higher second-quarter revenue aided by a 38 per cent rise in broadcasting income.

The club announced this two days after French champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) humbled the Red Devils 2-0 in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League duel at Old Trafford.

Sensational France international Kylian Mbappe and compatriot Presnel Kimpembe scored the goals as Solskjaer suffered his first defeat as United boss on Tuesday after 11 matches.

United also said they had paid 19.6 million pounds ($25.10 million) as compensation to former manager Jose Mourinho and some members of his coaching staff.

According to the club, revenue for the three months ended December 31 came in at 208.6 million pounds, compared with 177.4 million pounds a year earlier.

Mourinho was sent packing in December 2018 after two-and-a-half years in charge of the Red Devils, who were sixth in the Premier League at the time.

Under the Portuguese, the most successful club in the Premier League suffered their worst start to a campaign for 28 years.

Meanwhile, caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has lifted the side to fourth place in the league.

But while reacting to his team’s shocking loss to PSG on Tuesday, Solskjaer said: “There is a determination and desire there to put this right, and when we get to Paris we’ll give it a go.

“It’s a mountain to climb but it’s not impossible. If we get to half-time with a 1-0 lead, that’s what we’ve got to look for.”
