Manchester United need to stop buying players like Sanchez, Falcao and Di Maria - Solksjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to stop signing superstar names and focus on buying players that fit in at the club.

United have been guilty of being drawn into the aura of big names, such as Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao, Paul Pogba and Angel di Maria.

Despite costing vast amounts of money in transfers and salaries, Di Maria and Falcao (loan) left Old Trafford after one season.

Sanchez is the latest big name addition, earning upwards of £300,000 a week, but has yet to find his feet in Manchester.

Solskjaer has helped turn the club’s results around since taking temporary charge in December and believes United need to rethink their transfer policy.

‘It is not about x amount of players,’ he said.

‘It has to be the right one and one who fits. The personality has to fit with the team.

‘It is not just buy a superstar and that will fix things and suddenly we go from challenging to being top four and be champions.

‘If you look at the players, the age of them, they’re young and they’ve got plenty of development in them.

‘But we also need some experienced players to stay and step up and really become the leaders.

‘Paul (Pogba) now is, Jesse – they’re at that age where we expect them to take that responsibility and not just be a young boy that floats around.’

United have seen a dramatic upturn in results since the sacking of Jose Mourinho and are now just two points off of top four.

Chelsea travel to Manchester City on Sunday and United can leapfrog the Blues into fourth place with a win in their game against Fulham if Maurizio Sarri’s side fail to pick up points in Manchester.
