Oxlade Chamberlain returns to training for Liverpool

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted he was happy to return to training with his Liverpool team-mates and was pleased to discover he is still a better player than Andy Robertson.

The Liverpool midfielder has missed the entire season to date through injury and is closing in on one year since he suffered knee ligament damage.

Jurgen Klopp and his players jetted out to Spain this week to undergo a four-day warm training camp and Oxlade-Chamberlain was included in the squad.

‘Stiff, no I’m alright,’ he said. ‘It’s good, good to be back.

‘It gives you a good little boost to be in around the lads.

‘You don’t really think about your knee, you’re just happy to be back out there and get on with it. I did a little bit today.

‘First introduction back in. To be fair I’ve put in a shift there. Watch that footage back, I’ve staked a claim for MOM today.

‘Honestly it’s embarrassing, Andy Robertson – still not as good as me.’

The Englishman is a hot favourite among Liverpool fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating his return to action.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s comeback is pencilled in for April, but Liverpool will not rush the 25-year-old back after a long-term injury.

Liverpool have over a week to prepare for their next game, with a visit from Bayern Munich next on the agenda for the Reds.

Bayern go to Anfield on 19 February in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.
