Football superstars like Mesut Ozil, Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Aguero among others paid tributes to Cardiff City's Argentine striker Emiliano Sala after his body was found in English Channel plane wreckage.

In what comes as a piece of heart-shattering news for the football fraternity, the body found in the English Channel plane wreckage has been identified as of Cardiff City forward Emiliano Sala. The 28-year-old striker was travelling from Nantes (France) to Cardiff (Wales) after completing a £15m move to Premier League club Cardiff City. Sala’s transfer was the Premier League club's record signing as the club continue to fight relegation battle to survive in top-flight football.

As soon as the official statement was released by the Dorset Police regarding the body identification of the Argentine striker, the football fraternity started to pay tributes to the former Nantes forward with the likes of Iker Casillas, Mesut Ozil, Sergio Aguero, Antonio Rudiger, Benjamin Mendy leading the way.

"The body brought to Portland Port today, Thursday 7 February 2019, has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala. The families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers," Dorset Police had said in an official statement.

Cardiff City also issued a statement after the Dorset Police officially confirmed the news. "We offer our most heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Emiliano. He and David will forever remain in our thoughts," the Premier League club stated.

“Enorme tristeza QEDP Emiliano. Mis condolencias a familiares y amigos #PrayForSala //Terribly sad  Rest in peace, Emiliano. My condolences to his friends and family #PrayForSala,” wrote Argentine striker Sergio Aguero.

“No words to describe how sad this is. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and also to the family of the pilot,” wrote Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil.

“Heartbreaking to hear the news about Emiliano Sala. Rest in peace! Thoughts go out to the family and friends of Emiliano and the pilot,” wrote Antonio Rudiger.

Here are some of the reactions from the football fraternity:

Sala’s body was found on Monday in the plane wreckage, however, it was recovered after two days, from where it was taken to the nearest port of Portland in Dorset where the formal identification procedure was conducted. Meanwhile, the body of the pilot – David Ibboston – is yet to be found.

Sala had scored 12 goals while assisting two in Ligue 1 for Nantes, who are currently placed 15th in the Ligue 1 standings. Cardiff, struggling in the Premier League, signed the 28-year-old striker to bring someone lethal in front of the goal. The £15m transfer fee agreed for Sala beats the £11m transfer of Chile international Gary Medel in 2013.
