President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro has ‘betrayed’ the country’s brightest football star right now following his latest action… and he was not even in the country when it happened.
So out of sight really is out of mind and it looks like that is the case for Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Neymar, who has been out of action for PSG and Brazil since February and it appears his national team has put him out of the picture.
This is after the Brazil president met with his United States counterpart, Donald Trump at the White House in the American capital city, Washington, in what was the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the two largest economies in the Americas.
It was also Bolsonaro’s first state visit since he was inaugurated as Brazil’s president in January this year. He came into office after Michel Temer, who served between 2016 and 2018.
Anyway, Brazil’s President Bolsonaro decided to give away Neymar’s number 10 shirt to the US President as a gift to Trump after arriving at the White House for their meeting.
Bolsonaro is a known admirer of the US President and appears to be keen to stir up a strong partnership personally with Trump and improve bilateral ties between both countries.
“For the first time in a long time, a Brazilian President who is not anti-American arrives in Washington,” Bolsonaro tweeted on Sunday. “It is the beginning of a partnership for freedom and prosperity, as Brazilians have always wanted.”
And it appears this admiration has set the Brazil president apart from other leaders in the eyes of Trump. More so the South American leader’s use of Twitter which bears similarities with the regularity with which Trump uses the social media platform to share his some of his messages and indeed policies.
Last year Trump banned the acceptance of trans-gender people from the US military with a tweet. Such is the similarity that Bolsonaro has been referred to as the ‘Trump of the tropics’.
