Granit Xhaka sets new record with shock goal to beat Manchester United's David De Gea

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka broke the deadlock in his side's Premier League clash with Manchester United and in doing so he broke new ground in his own career.

The Swiss international has played for three clubs: Basel in Switzerland, Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Bundesliga and the Gunners.

He arrived at the Emirates in 2016 as a long-term successor to Mikel Arteta in the deep-lying playmaker role but was hampered in his first two years at the club as Arsene Wenger sought to use him as more of a defensive midfielder.

He has now added a personal best to cap off this improvement. By scoring against David De Gea, he reached four league goals for the season, a new record for Xhaka.

The 26-year-old has previously only ever managed to score a maximum of three goals in a league season, despite his reputation for taking powerful shots from range.
