Timo Weah Apologises to PSG Fans After Congratulating Man Utd Star

Celtic loanee Timo Weah has apologised to the supporters of his parent club PSG after congratulating a Manchester United starlet in the wake of their shock win over the French side.

Like most football fans across the continent, Weah probably watched last night’s Champions League last-16 second-leg in Paris in shock and awe as United became the first team ever in the competition’s history to lose the first-leg at home by more than two goals and still progress.

Understandably, there was a lot of goodwill for United and their interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on social media in the aftermath of the result, and one Red Devil taking plenty of praise was winger Tahith Chong.

The 19-year-old was thrown on in the second-half for his European debut for the club, and his cameo won him plaudits from Weah – who is, of course, still owned by PSG.

After the game, the 19-year-old American international liked Chong’s Instagram post which praised United’s win and the 19-year-old’s Euro debut.

Alongside a love-heart eyes emoji, Weah wrote: “Big baller.”

Perhaps after some reactions from unhappy PSG fans, Weah decided to apologise not too long after:

Writing on his Instagram story, Weah said:

“I sincerely apologise for not realising that I commented on something bad.

“Even though I was disappointed with Manchester’s win, I was happy for my two friends [Chong and Greenwood] who made their debut in the Champions League, which is also my dream.

“It’s just really bad timing on my part.

“PSG did everything for me – I have no reason to be against them.

“I love my team-mates and I love the fans, so I will never let the fans or the club down.”
