Twitter will be introducing an experimental new Hide Tweet feature in order to provide a greater level of conversation control for users.
With it, users will be able to hide and unhide replies to their original tweet. The idea, according to a Twitter spokesperson, is to see if it can lead to healthier conversations between people on the platform.
Michelle Yasmeen Haq, who serves as a senior product manager at Twitter, spoke on how the Hide Tweet feature works differently from block, mute, or reporting. She wrote in a Twitter chain “With this feature, the person who started a conversation could choose to hide replies to their tweets. The hidden replies would be viewable by others through a menu option.”
According to another Twitter spokesperson, the idea with this experiment is to give users more control over what appears in their feed. While this sounds like a good idea on paper, it remains to be seen how well it will work once out in the wild.
