Frimino sustains muscle tear, risks missing clash with Barcelona

The Brazilian had been a major doubt for the first leg of the semi final in the Nou Camp, after enduring a “muscle tear” according to his manager Jurgen Klopp.

That happened in training on Friday, and forced him to miss the 5-0 romp against Huddersfield on Friday night.

There were even fears Firmino’s season could be over, but they have been completely dismissed by the Reds boss, who insisted his striker would “definitely” play again before the summer.

If Firmino comes through his fitness test on Tuesday, then he will be put straight back into the side to face Barca, with the manager recognising the pivotal role he plays in the team’s formation.

Klopp described the injury as “a small tear in a very small muscle”. That he said, was a problem, but only a minor one.

“Apart from the word tear everything is positive. It is Bobby so he might be ready for Wednesday but we don’t know at the moment. But because it is Bobby, it is rather likely than not. Of all the bad news you could get, it is pretty much the best [outcome]”.

Liverpool ’s players were given Sunday off after recovery work on Saturday, and the clubs medics have told Firmino ta allow the issue to settle, offering a chance for swelling to subside.

They will then allow him to return to training on Tuesday before the squad takes the flight to Spain, and Klopp will leave his team selection until Tuesday morning to see how Firmino has reacted to the session.
