Leroy Sane reveals what Pep Guardiola told him before coming on for Man City vs Man Utd

Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford to consolidate their bid to retain the Premier League title for the first time in their history.

Pep Guardiola instructed Leroy Sané to find Manchester City's rhythm after the winger replaced the injured Fernandinho on 51 minutes in the Blues' victory against Manchester United.

City laboured during the first half but Sané'sintroduction proved inspirational, with Benardo Silva scoring three minutes later before the Germany international netted the ultimate winner on 66 minutes.

Sané netted City's 156th goal of the campaign - a record for an English side - and was pleased with the way his side negotiated the most challenging hurdle remaining to them this season.

"Of course it's in our hands," he told Sky Sports. "We just have to play our game. We have to take it game by game and see what happens at the end of the season.

"[Guardiola told me to] Just as always to bring more rhythm to the game and to defend well. I think in the first half we didn't have that rhythm but in the second half it was much better. It was a really good second half."

The 22-year-old has played 90 minutes in the Premier League just twice this calendar year, and admits the level of competition in City's squad ensures the highest levels of performance.

"If I come on and score I can be happy," he said. "We have a really strong team.

"We have fantastic players in the squad and everyone is playing really well, everyone is working really hard.

"The players like me who are sitting on the bench have to be patient and work harder and to show the coach you can play when you come on."
