Martinez, 21, has agreed a four-year contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena and is the Dutch champions' fourth signing of the summer already.
He has won one cap for Argentina, playing the friendly match against Venezuela in Madrid back in March.

Martinez is the second centre-back Ajax have signed this summer after the arrival of Kik Pierie from Heerenveen and will join up with his new team-mates on July 1.
He told the club's official website: 'Martinez is a left-legged player who can handle multiple positions in the back. He is a defender who wants to play football ahead.

'He brings along a certain mentality that we can use well here, comparable to what his fellow countryman Nico Tagliafico shows here.

Martinez made 55 appearances foer Defensa, playing an important role as they finished second in the Argentine Primera Division, four points behind Racing.
Ajax have also signed goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen from Emmen and attacking midfielder Razvan Marin from Standard Liege this summer.
